The type locality on the island Løvøya in Langesundsfjorden where the vicar Hans Morten Thrane Esmark (1801-1882) discovered the mineral thorite in 1828. The locality on Løvøya was called by him "Thorithul" (Thoritthullet" in modern Norwegian language) meaning "the Thorite Hole", but the the excact spot is today unfortunately forgotten. Already in 1874 the locality was known to have been exhausted (Brøgger 1890). A heavily blasted out syenite pegmatite on a small headland in Løvøysundet has been suggested as being the TL, but the very location of the TL remains today unsure.
