Sediments containing moldavites. Moldavites are deposits mostly in sands and sands-gravel material.
The company FONSUS is mining these moldavites-enriched sediments.
Officially, the recovery factor is 5 g/m³, but in the 1970s a study on this locality performed by the state-owned company Geoindustria ascertained a recovery factor of 20.35 g/m³.
Off the record, in 2010 the mining company released too many moldavites on the market so that the price got as low as 4 CZK per gram. Unofficially I heard that they sold about 700 kg moldavites in 2010 (Jan Čermák information).
Currently (2023), the operating company earns 50% of its income throught moldavites.
The pit first started in the southern part of the present (2023) mining area, then expanded toward the north.
