The setts of Tregurtha Downs and Owen Vean were subsequently worked together as Wheal Union in 1883 but the expense of the venture soon forced closure.

Sold as "a going concern' in 1885, it was then worked as Tregurtha Downs by a new company. Sold at auction in 1991, the mine was briefly renamed Wheal Helena, but reverted to Tregurtha Downs the following year.

Idle 1895-1899, there was an abortive attempt at revival in 1899 by Tregurtha Downs Consolidated Mines Ltd. The mine closed in 1902, but was reworked as part of Wh Hampton in the early 1900s..
