Erzgrube Zufriedenheit, Hastenrath, Eschweiler, Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
Former "Galmei" mine.
The former ore mine Zufriedenheit was located in the southern tip ("Hastenrather Zipfel") of the municipality of Hastenrath near Eschweiler in the Aachen district directly on the Napoleonsweg, southeast of the homestead known as Niederhof on the southern edge of the Burgholzer Mulde.
The mine was licensed in 1829 to Wilhelm Bilstein from Werth and Christian Bengel from Mausbach (both at the time in the municipality of Gressenich).
Around 1845, the Zufriedenheit mine belonged to the Cologne merchant Johann Jakob Langen, whose interests were represented by Jacob Bredt as authorized representative.
The latter took over the mine in 1847 and brought it into the limited partnership Bredt & Co. founded in the same year.
From 1851 the mine was operated by its successor company Allianz.
After its liquidation, it became the property of the J.W. Schmalenbach and was combined with the neighboring Albertsgrube in 1863.
