Mineralization in rocks of Viséan age (346.7 ± 0.2 to 330.9 ± 0.2 Ma.)

This mine worked the same veins as Poppelsberg and Lontzen.
This lead-zinc mine, located at the Kelmberg Mountain near Rabotrath, first operated between 1739 and 1770 but the main mining period started in 1847. Like the nearby Poppelsberg Mine this mine worked mainly as a quarry or opencast mine and during only 5 years the top of the Kelmberg mountain and one of the sides of the mountain were removed in search for ore.
The mine was abandoned in 1853. Nowadays the former quarry/opencast and some dumps remain.

It is absolutely forbidden to dig here as the place is considered a small nature reserve due to the zinc flora present.
