Buckfield is a community in the granite pegmatite mining area of Oxford County. Mining began in the town during the early twentieth century (~1917). The Bennett Quarry is an internationally known deposit in the area and is famous for gem beryl (both heliodor and morganite) as well as a wide variety of interesting mineral species (King and Foord, 1994 and King, 2000). The Bennett Quarry was one of the deposits studied by Landes (1925) when he was researching replacement textures relating to the genesis of granite pegmatites. The Bennett Quarry is one of many commercially operated ceramic grade feldspar deposits in the town (King, 2009).
