Vakinankaratra is the name of a region situated in the main Highland of Madagascar. Many foreign papers on minerals or labels on minerals from this region have often referred to this region as "Antsirabe-Betafo region".
Minerals from a large number of localities are often brought to the nearest market place where they are sold as gem material or minerals for collections. Some of the main marketplaces for minerals in Vakinankaratra are listed here: Ibity market, Sahanivotry, Ambohimanambola, Mahaiza and the town Antsirabe which also is a center for mineral trade. These names often occurs on labels but are not strictly localities just marketplaces.
