Montgomery County has a history of mineral mining dating back to the 1600s. Most of the county is underlain by Triassic-aged sedimentary rock, intruded in several areas by Jurassic-age diabase. There are two well-known mineral localities in the county, the Perkiomen-Ecton lead and copper mines, and the Kibblehouse Quarry in Perkiomenville.

Discovered by Mark Robinson in the latter 1950's in an ancient underground stope of the Ecton Mine. Mistakenly, but understandably, misidentified as Leadhillite, later correctly identified by Mary. E. Mrose in early 1960's by optical and x-ray crystallographic analysis.
