A very large (0.7 x 1.3 km) quarry in the Jurassic Holyoke Basalt operated by Tilcon Corp. for aggregate, rip-rap, etc. Despite its size and many cross-cutting faults, it has very little mineralization.

Age: Early Jurassic (174.1 - 201.3 Ma)

Stratigraphic Name: Shuttle Meadow Formation

Description: Maroon to dark-gray, silty shale, siltstone, and fine-grained silty sandstone, generally well and thinly laminated. In the southern part of the State includes a layer, up to 5 m thick, of blue, commonly sandy, fine-grained limestone or dolomitic limestone, grading laterally into calcareous siltstone. Coarser and more arkosic to east and south, grading into conglomerate near the eastern border fault.

Comments: Part of Central Lowlands; Newark Terrane - Hartford and Pomperaug Mesozoic Basins. Part of Newark Supergroup (Upper Triassic and Lower Jurassic). Part of Meriden Formation of Krynine (1950) (Lower Jurassic); CT005.
