P. C. Weibye discovered in 1844 a mineral which occurred in six-sided prisms, with flat summits, and which he described as a new mineral, which he named "Polychroilith". It was found in a lens in gneiss at Valberg [Valeberg] in Kragerø. The mineral was later shown to be an alteration of cordierite. The very locality has not been located in newer times, but altered cordierite occurs at different places at Valberg and in the Kragerø municipality
