[... durante os anos de 1914 a 1918. O engenheiro das minas Mr. Ackermann e escritores como Pedro Muralha e Albino Foraz Sampaio publicaram alguns registos sobre os recursos mineiros de todo o concelho de Porto de Mós. Registavam-se nesse época camadas de carvão de trinta e quarenta metros de altura. Previa-se o esgotamento do carvãso nesta área dentro de quinhentos anos, contando-se extrair cerca de cem toneladas diárias. À época a "Empresa Mineira do Lena" explorava as reservas nos concelhos de Porto de Mós, Batalha e Alcobaça, propriamente nas freguesias de Alcaria, Serro Ventoso, São João, São Pedro e Turquel. O carvão das minas do Lena exportava-se para as fábricas de cimento de Alhandra,para a empresa de cimentos de Leiria e de Bezerra.
