Located in the Kahnawake (known as Caughnawaga up to about 1980) Indian Reservation on the South shore of Montreal, this inactive 425 m x 325 m quarry is completely flooded.
The following description was taken from the Deposit File of the MRNF (Ministère des ressources naturelles et de la faune) :
A 20 meter bed of dolostone and dolomitic shale of the Beauharnois Formation of the Beekmantown Group is present in the quarry.
These Beekmantown rocks are covered by a 6 meter bed of quartzitic sandstone of the Laval Formation of the Chazy Group. This rock alters to a rusty brown color.
Overlying the Laval rocks, a 2 meter bed of finely interbedded sandstone and shale, underlied by some 4 meters of cristalline limestone or calcarenite, of the Saint-Martin Formation.
