Old Cu mine opened in 1846, it was thought to be an extension of the load being mined at the Burra Burra Mine. Intermittent operations until 1862 produced little ore and nothing of economic value. Later in 1883, the water from the shaft was used to supply the township of Burra.
The Mine is now also used as a museum for the history of the mining in the Burra region.
Located approx 490m from the north end of the Burra Burra Open Cut (or approx 1km from the Morphett’s Engine House at the south end of the Burra Burra Mine).
