The Engine shaft, which was wider at the top and nearly vertical, and a 210-foot long trench trending slightly north of west from the Engine shaft were located in the northeast central portion of Nottingham County Park. As noted by Pearre and Heyl (1960) this latest stage of development occurred in 1945 and it was perfectly captured on U.S. Department of Agriculture aerial photograph AHK-4D-174. With the stereo pair image, it was possible to clearly see down into both the Engine and Scott shafts! Both areas have now been completely reclaimed.

This location is consistent with the more generalized Location 81 on Plate 41 of Pearre and Heyl (1960.
