Gold

Located 13 kilometres north-west of Southern Cross, and named after a biblical city in Greece. Like many in the district it was a large low grade deposit, now an abandoned open pit. There were several leases close together with Corinthian and Corinthian North the most important . In the late 1940's these were combined into one large open pit. Gold was discovered at Corinthian by Harris and Hoffman (surnames), the date could not be found, but they are first reported mining at the location in 1909. The gold was of so low a value when found that Harris and Hoffman did not peg a lease at the site for many months. The Corinthian North Mine was operated by a company formed by Kalgoorlie gold pioneer D.L. Doolette.

The leases appear to have been abandoned by 1922 when the processing plant was sold to the Radio Mine north of Bullfinch. Minor crushings by individual prospectors were reported in the early 1930's, then James Bradley took over the leases in 1933. This included a newly erected 5 head battery. Bradley and his sons operated the mines to at least 1942.

In 1948 the mine was under Western Mining Corporation's ownership by its subsidiary New Yilgarn Gold Mines, and they developed an open pit using modern mining techniques. It operated as a satellite mine to their Bullfinch Mine.

Important note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
