This mining area is situated in a small valley (at the 9th milepost Mogok-Momeik road), north of the Pein-pyit village. Since November 2003, a small team of miners was working an open-pit deposit mining spinel, quartz, tourmaline and other gems found in samyay byôn from the alluvium. Most of these gems are small and of low quality - Ted Themelis (2008) Gems and Mines of Mogok.
