The mining area has been known for a long time. The principle rocks are apatite-phlogopite-diopside marble, graphite-phlogopite marble and others. Rubies and spinels are found in different types of marble using typical gwè-dwins and small tunnels. The ruby-bearing marble bands are greenish-bluish, bluish and brownish, with coarse grained texture and oriented at ~175° direction. Associated minerals include sphene, scapolite, pyrite and diopside. Spinels are found in the spinel-bearing marbles. - Ted Themelis (2008) Gems and Mines of Mogok
