A large multi-compartment shaft sunk to increase the capacity of the mining operation, which exceeded the capacity of the Parker shaft. This was the final shaft sunk on the ore body and remained active until permanent closure of the mine. It was sunk in the gneissic rock to the W of the Franklin Marble and the ore body. Some small cavities were encountered during the sinking process, containing zeolitic mineralization.
