An ochre mine.
Today you can see remains in a ravine of these red ochre mines. This modest mining project was called Mina Virgen del Carmen and where in work from mid-nineteenth century to the early twentieth century.

In the late nineteenth century the mine was run by the Soler-Devesa family from Alfàs del Pi. They are still today known with the nickname "la Mina". In 1888 the foreman Miguel Soler Devesa emigrated to Algeria. Leaving his wife Esperanza in charge of the workers.
The remains of the foreman's house still stand today. The line of columns running down the ravine supported the wagon rails that carried the ochre to the shore. From there it was transported on barges to a boat anchored in the bay.
