Piggoreet was a town of several hundred people in the 1850's and 60's, it is now just a locality. This area had several very rich deep lead gold mines and also quartz reef mines.
Devils Kitchen is a geological reserve due to the high basalt cliffs showing cooling columns and several layers of lava flow. Gold can still be panned in the heaps from the "Try Again" mine and "The Alfa", both in the reserve.
