The mine is located approximately 45 kms south west of Halls Creek, and 5 kilometres from the Emull locality.
Gold production commenced in September 2015 by Pantoro Ltd. The company refers to the mines and prospects in the area as the Lamboo project. A number of nearby deposits (1 km south) will use the Nicolsons's processing plant, being the Wagtail deposits (Wagtail South, Wagtail North and Rowdies).
Gold was discovered at Nicolson by local prospectors in the 1980's. A mine was opened in 1996, but closed only one year later. There are five pits- Nicolson's Find, Nicolson South, Rowdies, Wagtail North and Wagtail South.
At Nicolson's Find, the ore is associated with narrow quartz veins of varying strike lengths, dipping moderately to steeply east, and striking north north-east. The gold mineralisation is associated with north-east trending faults of the Halls Creek Orogen, with ore hosted in the Nicolson's Find Shear Zone, and to a lesser extent the Springvale fault. These are hosted by metamorphosed sedimentary rocks, felsic volcanoclastics, and mafic volcanics, close to a contact with granite intrusives.
At Rowdies the shallow pit was mined in 2001, on three limonitic quartz lodes of a maximum 1 metres wide each. Wagtail North and South were also mined in 2001, and also are shallow pits in laterite gold bearing rocks.
