An ancient Zn-Pb mine located in the middle Vallon de la Minière inside the crystalline basement of the Argentera Massif.

The Vallauria deposit was exploited in ancient times, surely by the Saracens in the 10th century.

Discontinuously exploited in the period from 1740 to 1891.

It was actively mined from 1892 to 1914 by Société Vieille-Montagne.
The zinc sulphide ore (blende) went to San Dalmazzo di Tenda.
There the mineral was roasted at a temperature not exceeding 700°C and the developed gas was utilised for the production of sulphuric acid.
The roasted ore was extracted to obtain zinc sulphate which was then electrolysed.

From 1915 to 1927 the mine was exploited by Società elettrica Riviera di Ponente Ing. Negri (later CIELI - Compagnia Imprese Elettriche Liguri).

A remarkable gallium content has been detected in sphalerite (Rigault, 1956).

"(Coming from Tende). Northeast of Nice on the N204 until beyond the Gorges de Berghe where there is, on the left side of the Vallon de la Minière road, a mine yielding numerous minerals such as arsenopyrite, anglesite, azurite, baryte, chalcopyrite, cerussite, native copper, galena, malachite, molybdenite, pyrite, pyrrhotite, quartz, and sphalerite." [Belot, 1978]
