β Chalcopyrite Formula: CuFeS2 |
β Chrysocolla Formula: Cu2-xAlx(H2-xSi2O5)(OH)4 · nH2O, x < 1 Reference: Amir Akhavan Collection |
β Quartz Formula: SiO2 |
β Smithsonite Formula: ZnCO3 Habit: Radially grown spheres, distorted rhombohedral crystals. Colour: Green Description: Small, sub-millimeter sized, apple green to emerald green radially grown pustules. Also as small distorted rhombohedral green crystals, single or as spherical aggregates.
Identified by crystal shape, moderate hardness and chemical behaviour. Dissolves slowly in 25% HCl, with some bubbling. After evaporation of water and residual HCl dissolving the almost colorless chloride needles in ammonia gives a colorless solution (no Cu, Ni).
