Between sea and mountain, in lush greenery mainly vineyards, this Mediterranean village in the north of the Fenouillèdes of the Pyrénées-Orientales enjoys the privilege of being watered by two rivers between the ranges of southern Corbières on the road of the most beautiful Cathar castles. North of the village are the very visited Gorges de Galamus (Galamus Canyon) dug by the Agly river.
There was research for bauxite north of Saint-Paul during early 20th century.
Iron ore from Lesquerde mines was carried by cable down to St-Paul rail station.
