These mines worked an east-west striking deposit of iron ore in metamorphosed killas immediately south of Roche. Wheal Click formed the western part of the sett and Tower Consols was in the east. According to Cantrill et al. (1919), the venture was also known as 'The Magnetic Iron Mine'. Not much is known on the nature of the deposit, which may have been a lode or an ore bed. The ores were chiefly composed of magnetite with minor hematite and limonite. Collins (1878) states that they also contained spots of chalcopyrite.
The mine was started in 1843 and continued operations until 1874. There are no records of output for most of this time, but Dines (1994) notes that the production figures may have been merged with those of neighbouring mines, most notably Coldvreath. The only record for Tower Consols is for 200 tons of ore produced in 1873. Beer (1994, addenda to the reprint of Dines) however notes that there is another record for the Magnetic Mine stating that 200 tons of ore were produced in 1873-1874.
