The Strangways Range is a jumble of hills bordered by the Plenty Highway to the north, Stuart Highway to the west, The Gardens pastoral station road to the south, and the Alatyeye Track to the east. The range is 68 kilometres north of Alice Springs. Much of the range is inaccessible. The highest point is Mount Pfitzner at 1066 metres.

Rock units contained in the range include Cadney, Hillsoak Bore, Arotonga, Ankala, and Sliding Rock Metamorphics, and Yambah Granulite. This includes calc-silicate rocks, marble, sillimanite-biotite, garnet-biotite, and quartzofeldspathic gneisses, felsic and mafic granulites, cordierite granulite, migmatites, quartzites, and amphibolite. The rocks cut belts of retrogressed greenschist facies quartzofeldspathic, muscovite-biotite and kyanite schist, quartzite, amphibolite, and calc-silicate rock.

The southern part of the range is the Wuluma Granitoid with sillimanite
gneiss, and the Utnalanama Granulite interlayered with Johannsen Metagabbro and Harry Gabbro.

North of the Plenty Highway is the isolated Mount Bleechmore Massif, underlain by the Mount Bleechmore Granulite of sillimanite-garnet-biotite quartzofeldspathic gneiss, garnet-K feldspar migmatites, mafic granulites, plutonic migmatites, and rare calc-silicate rock. Some carbonatite containing vermiculite.
