After the appearance of a fireball, a small mass was found. With its predominant components of Fe-Ni metal and olivine, Zaisho has been classified as a main group Pallasite and is one of only 4 witnessed falls as of late 2014. Zaisho is classified as an anomalous member of the Main Group of Pallasites. The nickel content of the Fe-Ni metal (Ni 10.75%) is unexceptional, but the olivine's rather high fayalite content (18 mol%) is closer to those of the Eagle Station Pallasite grouplet. Zaisho's unrounded Olivine also contains unusually high amounts of phosphorus and is sometimes 'kinked.' Minor amounts of troilite, schreibersite, chromite, stanfieldite, and farringtonite are also present. Zaisho also has small amounts of pyroxene. Pyroxene is usually absent in Pallasites, but in recent year has been detected in several Pallasites - usually in small quantities.
While oxygen isotopes, Ni-content of metal, olivine compositions, and other indicators all suggest that the Main Group Pallasites and the Eagle Station Pallasites are derived from a minimum of two separate original parent bodies (OPB). However, the implications of the oddballs and various main group outliers is not presently clear.
The main mass is in possession of S. Goto, Tokyo.
