Bauxite deposits located in the valley of River Mirna (Quieto) in the upper part of rudist limestones (Late Cretaceous), in Paleocene limestones, and at the base of alveolinic-nummulitic limestones (Eocene).

Starting from the 16th century the pyritised bauxites of Minjera have been exploited mainly for the production of vitriol and alum. Their first chemical-mineralogical study is due to Pietro Turini (1808).

Furthermore, a large extrusion, made of goethite and in small part of phyllosilicates (mainly kaolinite), has been identified in Eocenic limestones near a large tectonic dislocation and the Sveti Stjepan (Santo Stefano) thermal springs (Merlak, 2013).
