Located 6 kilometres south south-east of the Lefroy Mill, amongst a collection of other deposits and mines. Athena and Hamlet are underground gold mines discovered in 2007 by Goldfields Australia Ltd, and developed as a mine from November 2009 in the case of Athena, and the first ore came out of Hamlet in October 2011. In 2009, reserves were announced for the deposit at 1.7 Mt at 5.6 g/t yielding 316 Koz of gold.

The gold is hosted in a discrete north-south striking steep to moderately dipping shear zone, within the south-west dipping Paringa Basalt. Vein intensity strongly correlates with gold grades. The veins vary from early thin quartz-albite-pyrite/or pyrrhotite shear parallel veins, to strong brecciated and irregular veining quartz-albite-actinolite-biotite-pyrrhotite infill.
