In 1941, local farmer J.C. Symes found quartz floaters with gold in it, 300 yards from his homestead. His sons began digging, and on their first costean uncovered the cap of the reef.
The location is 10 kilometres north-east of the Holleton mining centre, in a small square of bushland surrounded by wheat paddocks. It is located along the Meranda North Road, and 200 metres south of it. The site is marked by a small pit. It is on private property.
Small intermittent tonnages came from it by the Symes until 1948. Known in later years as the Brittania Mine, the lease was forfeited in 1948.
An exploration company in 2010 states there is a 1.5 km long by 0.5 kilometres long gold anomaly, north-east trending, in a jog position in the greenstone belt. Within this around Symes Find is a 300 metre series of stacked north-west striking, shallow north-east dipping shoots.
