Gold was discovered at Barrambie when building the rabbit proof fence. Gold came up when digging the fence posts. The workforce immediately abandoned the project to search for gold. May 1905, Parker and party were awarded the reward lease, which turned out to be at the southern end of the gold belt. No crushings, or much other than basic prospecting was found for the lease.
