Giftgrube, Filon Saint Jacques


Since the XVth century the Giftgrube is a mine, exploiting the Sankt Jacob vein. “Gift” = poisonous, and “Grube” = mine. It was one of the most productive.
Traces of digging with antique chisels are very common and alternate with more radical ones made with black powder since XVIIth century.
The Sankt Jacob vein splits in 2 and the Giftgrube exploited the north vein section.
The Giftgrube and the Gabe Gottes mines are connected underground.
In the literature, the 2 mines are mentioned as one but the mineralogy is not exactly the same.
This mine is now honored by a mineral name.
