This mine is not the same locality as the Wonder Well emerald mine, found half-way between Morley's Find and the Riverina Station homestead. No information could be found about emeralds at this gold mine, and the gemstone is unlikely to occur here. Some gold mines were named after a gemstone, simply because it made the mine sound more exotic.

It is surprising considering the Riverina gold mines were active from the 1890's, and Morley Find mines from the late 1930's, that emeralds were only discovered at Wonder Well in 1974, and then completely by accident.

The Emerald Gold Mine dates from the late 1930's. The mine was owned and worked by Ernest Robert Bassett, George Widdis McKernan, and William Robinson.

GML 1101U. The lode was intersected by many quartz stringers carrying gold. At one point the lode was 27 feet wide. The lease had several shafts. The lease was active from the late 1930's to the early 1950's.

The mine is 15 kilometres north of Morley's Find, and 4 kilometres west of the Riverina-Lake Ballard Road. An un-marked rough track winds north-west to the site. Not much remains other than some shafts, and minor mullock.
