Lorna Doone is a small open pit, 800 metres south-east of the Daisy Milano Gold Mine. The Spinifex open pit is adjacent to the north, while the Costello and Mirror pits are a short distance south.
Both Lorna Doone and Spinifex were developed in 1993, with a combined production of 24 800 ounces at 2.52 g/t. Silver Lake Resources has explored the deposits at various stages from 2008.
Lorna Doone has an Indicated Resource of 686 000 tonnes of ore at 2.0 g/t yielding 44 200 ounces of gold, and an Inferred Resource of 641 000 tonnes of ore at 3.5 g/t yielding 72 000 ounces of gold.
Lorna Doone, Spinifex, Costello, and Mirror are located on the north-south trending Mirror Shear Zone. At the first three sites the shear zone is intruded by closely spaced foliated porphyry dykes.
The deposits are hosted within a group of intermediate volcanic tuffs. Mineralisation is found across a width of 5 to 20 metres, located within the Mirror steep dipping shear zone, adjacent to parallel felsic porphyries.
Mineralisation at Lorna Doone dips steeply west and plunges south, while at Spinifex it dips vertically. Cross-cutting faults are evident in both deposits, causing zones of dilation, and enhanced gold grades.
Gold at Lorna Doone and Spinifex occurs in narrow high grade quartz veins up to 30 g/t. The quartz veins are found along the contact with the dykes, and sometimes act as fault planes.
Historic information for Lorna Doone was only found across 1948 to 1950, although minor prospector activity is possible after this date. Cunneen (Junior) and party crushed 141 tonnes of ore in 1949 for 29.67 ounces of gold from work done in 1948.
R.G. Morley is then noted on the lease (GML 6043E) in 1950 crushing 82 tonnes of ore for 44 ounces 12 dwt. The source states the previous year the mine had produced 429 tonnes of ore for 154.97 ounces.
