Abandoned halite mine located at Contrada Salina, SE of Cattolica Eraclea.

The mining history of this salt deposit dates back to the 1st century BC, when the extracted salt was commercialised by the Romans. After World War II the Cattolica salt deposit was industrially exploited and became one of the most important halite mines in Italy. Operations definitively ceased in 1989.
