The Warner Glen mineral sands prospect is one kilometre south of the Alexandra Bridge, and borders the eastern side of the Blackwood River. There is another area bordering the west of the Blackwood River, called the Rover Range prospect.
Explored by BHP Billiton 1987 to 1999. Inferred resource of 701 Mt at 2.6% ilmenite, and an Indicated resource of 106 Mt at 2.8% ilmenite.
The heavy mineral sands are mostly in the Warnbro (pronounced 'Warnbra') Group sediments, covering an area 2 kilometres east-west and 1 kilometre north-south, with an average thickness of 23 metres at a 2% ilmenite grade cut-off. High clay content and sand abrasiveness presents challenges to any extraction of the material.
