The Hualapai Tribe is a federally recognized Indian Tribe located in northwestern Arizona. “Hualapai” (pronounced Wal-lah-pie) means “People of the Tall Pines.” In 1883, a Presidential Executive order of Chester A. Arthur on January 4, 1883 stablished the Hualapai Indian reservation. The reservation encompasses 1,142 square miles (2,960 km2), or about one million acres, along 108 miles (ca. 174 km) of the Grand Canyon and Colorado River. It occupies part of three northern Arizona counties: Coconino, Yavapai, and Mohave.
