Description: The is possibly the locality for andradite with rare crystallography from "West Thetford Mines" described by Parsons, A. L., 1935, Trisoctahedral Garnet from West Thetford Mines, P. Q., Contributions to Canadian Mineralogy (University of Toronto Studies Geological Series, 38), p. 33-36. Nonetheless, known andradite specimens from the Black Lake Mine have the same color and crystallography described by Parsons. Parsons (1935) reported a chemical composition of 78.74% end-member andradite for "West Thetford Mines" andradite.

Hydromagnesite ?

Description: Aug 2, 2012 From Maggie Wilson - We acquired a specimen labelled hydromagnesite from a dealer several years back. Yesterday, we tested the material in HCL and it dissolved but did not fizz. From Laszlo: "Scolecite is more likely to dissolve than tobermorite and since it is on stilbite (if I recall correctly) it is likely scolecite. There is okenite there as well. The first time we collected at Mine Lac d'Amiante, we found some white fibrous material and the "knowledgeable" collectors in our group declared it hydromagnesite. This was in 1993, ever since then I have been looking for hydromagnesite from that mine. Most of the hydromagnesites sold by collectors and dealers that I have come across turned out to be zeolites (scolecite mostly) and also tobermorite. In fact I am still looking for confirmed hydromagnesite from the area as I am trying to archive the minerals found in different mines in the area. I assume that your specimen is from Mine Lac d'Amiante, which apparently is in St-Joseph-de Coleraine, although everybody including myself thought it was in Black Lake."
