A former Mn-silica mine located in secs. 26 & 27, T26N, R9E, MDM, 1.3 km (4,300 feet) W of Moccasin, about 3 miles SW of Crescent Mills, on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Ownership is a fee ownership basis. Owned by Maribeth W. Collins, et al (100.00%), California (1975).
Mineralization is a hydrothermal replacement deposit with an irregularly shaped, tabular ore body in a shear zone with breccia filling. It strikes N47W and dips 57S at 2 meters thick, and with a depth to top of 0 to 5 meters. It is 30 meters wide and 80 meters long. Oxidation was the secondary mode of origin and bedding was the ore control. No wall rock alteration.
Local rocks include Paleozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 2 (Northeastern Sierra Nevada).
Workings include surface and underground openings.
The ore graded 40 to 56% Mn and 2.5 to 12% silica.
