Quarry for a pale blue kyanite-quartzite rock quarried as aluminium ore.
Prospection in the area started at the beginning of the 1900s. Svenska Kyanite AB quarried the kyanite from 1984 to ?.
Belongs to the same deformation zone as Västanå, Skåne and Hökensås, Västergötland.
Svanbergite was first discovered here in 1851 "in that part of this voluminous mountain [Hålsjöberg], which bears the name of Orrknölen." (Igelström 1886).
