One of more than 30 phosphate deposits known for deep blue gem apatite. The apatite samples are radioactive, due to the presence of uranium- and thorium-bearing oxides in microfractures.
The Pedras Altas claim is located 60 km N of Ipirá, in the banks of Itapecuru Mirim river, few km far from the village Pedras Altas.
