A small former underground Cu-Au-Ag-Mn mine located in West-central sec. 23, T.10N., R.19W. (Black Peak 15 minute topo map), about ½ mile north of the Rio Vista Mine, due W from Billy Mack Mountain, 6 miles E of Parker. This property is comprised of 1 patented and 6 (?) unpatented claims. Operated 1925 to 1963. Owned at times, or in part, by Mr. H. Mack; Mr. M. Osborne (1939), Mr. D. Wray (1940); the Associated Mining Co.; and the Health & Wealth Club, Inc. Owned by Mr. Harry Osborne (1957, 1966-).
Mineralization is spotty and irregular copper ores, oxidized near the surface and with relict, partly replaced sulfides in depth, with hematite, in a gangue of quartz, calcite and barite in a brecciated fault zone cutting silicified and metamorphosed Paleozoic-Mesozoic limestone and Precambrian metamorphics, probably close to a thrust fault zone. It is associated with low-angle normal faults. Ore bodies found within and above the flinty, chloritic, micro-brecciated detachment surface. The zone strikes N25ºW and dips about 80º SW. The country rock is schistose quartzite and siliceous limestone. Alteration is minor iron oxide. An associated rock unit is basalt.
Workings include tunnel and 2 shafts at 100 feet (30.48 meters) deep, each with 400 feet of drifts, cross cuts, and raises off the main shaft; also, about 600 feet of tunnels, crosscuts, stopes and surface workings. This mine was prospected and mined sporadically from the late 1860's to 1963. It produced some 400 tons of ore averaging about 3.5% Cu, 0.2 oz. Au/T, and 0.1 oz. Ag/T. Has produced some rich ore.
