An underground copper mine consisting of three shafts located near Rockland, MI. The Rockland Mining Co. was organized in 1853 and worked until 1870, when the comapny was shut down and passed into the National Mining Co. interests. Work continued on tribute until 1880 when the mine closed for good. The Rockland Mine produced approx. 5.8 million lbs. of refined copper. The mine piles produce some quality copper, silver, and prehnite crystals.
