Serpentinite mass included between two calcschist thick belt in the middle of the ridge connecting Punta Costabruna (2414 m) to Colle del Vento (2232 m). Serpentine schists are present towards the contact zone. A 2-3m-thick layer of a tourmaliniferous mica schist crops out at 2290 m, at the northern contact between serpentinite and calcshist. A greenschist facies metabasite (prasinite) layer is present at the southern contact.
Clinochlore, ilmenite, magnetite, pink titanite, brown vesuvianite, and brown garnet form the typical mineral assemblage of the rodingite lenses.
Note: in mineral collections, minerals from Punta Costabruna are frequenty labelled as from Cassafrera, i.e., the ca. 2km-long and 1.4-1.8km-wide morainic deposit, located at the base of the arquate Punta Costabruna-Monte Pian Real-Punta del Lago-Monte Rocciavrè-Punta Cristalliera-Punta Malanotte-Punta Pian Paris ridge forming the head of Vallone del Gravio.
