Arkansas has had a rich mining and mineral collection history. The primary areas of interest are the Ozark region (north) and Ouachita Mountains (west central). The south and eastern portions of the state are in the Gulf Coastal Plain. The Ozarks have a number of metal mines, while the Ouachita's are known for clear quartz crystals, a state park where you can hunt diamonds and a number of mineralogically rich carbonatites (Magnet Cove).
