Paleogene volcanic field extends over c. 800 km². The basic rocks are concentrated in the NE as lava flows, whereas trachytic to phonolitic lavas, volcanoclastic rocks and intrusions occur principally in the SW (Schreiber et al. 1999; Haase et al. 2004).
