Vulcano is the southernmost of the seven islands of the Aeolian island arc and, with an area of 22 km2, it is the third largest island, following Lipari and Salina.

Some invidual localities on the island with the following phases:
- basalt lava outcrop between Monte Cardo and Monte Molineddo: allophane (white to blue-green mammillary coatings in small lava cavities - Panichi, 1914);
- Monte Molineddo: gearksutite (white rounded masses up to 2 cm embedded in rock - Sabor & Sabor, 1997); a different occurrence was previously reported by Bernauer (1941); another occurrence with feldspar and Mn oxides has been reported by S. Möckel (personal communication in Campostrini et al., 2011);
- unprecised locality: bararite (no description, dubious occurrence - Montrasio et al., 1996);
- unprecised fumaroles: magnesioferrite (dubious occurrence - Palache et al., 1944).
