The Daisy Black Mine was a prominent lead-silver mine and the largest producer in the Dome Mining District. The ore occurred as irregular veins and replacements in dolomite, some of which being concentrated along prominent folds in the rock. It is believed that the ore was associated with dikes found nearby the mine. The deposit was discovered in 1882 and small shipments of ore were made to the Nicholia Smelter (near the Viola Mines) 75 miles away. In 1911 the mine had a mill installed and more serious development began. The mill began production in 1912 but had a poor recovery. It made shipments of concentrates and sorted ore until 1918, paying dividends for multiple years. The mine had sporadic work from 1918 until 1922 when the camp was moved to a lower adit called the #4 or Daylight Tunnel. A new mill was built and in 1924 the mine resumed production. In 1929 the mine was the largest lead producer in the state outside of the Coeur D'Alene District. It maintained a more or less steady production until 1931 when metal prices caused it to close. The mine was idle until 1937 when the dump and tailings were reprocessed, a process which occurred intermittently along with small amounts of mining until 1968 (although there my have been some activity up to 1982). The complete recorded production of the mine is around 183,000 tons of ore and 29,000 tons of reprocessed tailings containing 376,000 oz Ag, 40,700,000 lbs Pb, and 146,000 lbs Zn. The final reported development of the mine is 18,000' of workings.
