A large region containing a wide variety of mineral deposits including complex granite pegmatites, high-grade metamorphic deposits including marbles with gem minerals, alkaline rocks, serpentinites, etc.

The Pamir mountains are largely in Tajikistan with sections in Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, China .
