Old, now abandoned iron mines worked on proterozoic skarn-iron ore deposits. Mining started here around 1574 until the last mines (Bråstad Mines) were closed in 1975.

d'Andrada (1800) described wernerite from "Northo" [Nødebro ?] and "Ulricha" iron mines in Arendal. The current names of these mines are uncertain.
